A central element of the public performance and workshops, the breath is a human power with a wide spectrum of tactile, sonic and vibratory characteristics. The choir of blowers. BREATHCORE plays without a conductor, without a score, and constantly varies its formats and modes of representation. Each rehearsal, each public performance is experienced as a process of synchronizing people, sharing talents, non-verbal communication. A BREATHCORE performance exists only through the collective quality of the group.
Michael Schmid is a musician and flautist specialized in contemporary experimental music. He is a member of the Ictus Ensemble and frequently collaborates with the European New Music Ensemble as a chamber musician and soloist. In addition to his activities as a flutist, Michael Schmid performs pieces of concrete poetry, creates installations and sound pieces. He has a deep interest in politics and the transmission of musical creation processes.

Each participant will attend three preparatory workshops given by Michael Schmid. The workshops focus on breathing exercises from different cultures and traditions, communication methods, non-verbal synchronization methods and competence sharing techniques. It is essential to follow the workshops to participate in the public performance. The workshops will take place in Lausanne.
The choir members will be divided into small groups during the workshops. Each participant will attend three 5-hour workshop sessions and one 3-hour rehearsal session. The precise schedules will be sent at the beginning of January 2019.
