Marking the creation of a new arts district in the heart of the city of Lausanne, the ceremony of the first stone of the new mcb-a was held Thursday, on 6th October 2016 before an audience of some 450 people representatives including political and cultural circles, as well as numerous sponsors and partners that directly contributed in the funding project. A symbolic and artistic gesture at the same time, the "first stone" took the form of a box containing, among other things, 79 objects and works by Vaud, Swiss and foreign artists. The construction schedule is respected and the museum’s inauguration is scheduled for September 2019.
